2024 IBL Dominico Cup Finals: Game 4
In just my first season broadcasting games for the Intercounty Baseball League's (IBL) Guelph Royals, the team managed to power their way to the league championship against the almighty Barrie BayCats. What follows is a chronicle of the work I put in to get prepared for this momentous occasion.
A Minor Adjustment
My work as an On-Air Analyst, alongside Play-by-Play Commentator Mark Pare, was essential to shaping the broadcast of one of the most viewed games in IBL history. The only thing was, plans changed very close to Game 4: the legendary Neil Srivastava, who would have been the Analyst with me on Play-by-Play, had to step away due to health issues. So, Mark was brought in to be the new Play-by-Play commentator with yours truly shifted over to Analyst. That meant having to change up my entire research and prep process, given that Analysts are expected to have more stats, facts, and background info on every player. With little time to spare, I got down to business...

Chilling before first pitch: myself, right, along with Mark Pare, top center, Neil Srivastava, bottom center, who managed to join us as a spectator, and our producer, Jacob Chapelle
The Preparation Process
What you see before you are the detailed rosters/game notes for both the Guelph Royals and Barrie BayCats, made by yours truly prior to Game 4 of the Dominico Cup Finals. Like I said, just a slight tweak in the amount of prep work going from Play-by-Play to Analyst. Oh yeah, all this doesn't even include the notes/batting orders I wrote onto these papers throughout the game itself.

The End Result
In the end, it ended up being a phenomenal broadcast, from a production stand point and from a commentary view. Obviously I can't put up screenshots of every single positive comment that was sent in the YouTube livestream chat, but I think the ones featured to the right perfectly sum up the overwhelmingly positive reaction from IBL fans (and their delightful usernames). And while the Royals ultimately fell short of sending the series to a fifth game, getting to make the BayCats championship victory that much more magical made the broadcast forever memorable to me.
