Parasport Pathways
And of course, clicking the lovely feature image above will take you directly to the full show itself.
The final assignment for one of the most fascinating classes I've ever had (so far) as a Sport Media student at Toronto Metropolitan University, Parasport Pathways was a 27-minute mostly-live sports studio production centered around parasports and para-athletes. The end goal of bringing recognition to one of sports' more overlooked sections, and my crew and I not only achieved that goal but surpassed it entirely. Needless to say, it was a resounding, acclaimed success, but the project was never about us; it was about para-athletes and their endless passion and perseverance. So take a look at the creative process behind the show.
Just One Little Issue...
In this production, I served as executive producer and oversaw the entire project, leading my group through the entire production process. The issue was, parasports sadly don't get the recognition they deserve, and as such getting the project off the ground in terms of finding b-roll, images for graphics, and willing interview guests was considerably more difficult then we could have imagined. But with some deep research and a ton of perseverance, we got their in the end. Below you can see some of our first drafts and prep work as we built up towards the live production.

The final product: our very own Jacob Cullen breaks down some of the minimal info we were able to find on the differences between the Paralympics and the Olympics.
Putting in the Work

And the Results are in...
As previously mentioned, the final show ended up being an absolute hit, not only garnering my crew and I a near perfect grade but, more importantly, getting many of our classmates hooked on parasports. For obvious privacy reasons, I can't show any of the prof feedback or transcribe any of the verbal praise we received, so you're really going to have to just trust me on this one.
